Punjab announces holiday in educational institutions on May 7

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced the closure of all educational institutions across the province on Wednesday (May 7) amid the recent standoff with India.

The decision was taken after India cowardly attacked several cities in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), targeting the civilian population.

DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that India has launched missiles from its airspace in Bahawalpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Muridke, and Bagh.

Considering the situation, the Punjab government has announced several emergency measures, putting all law enforcement agencies on high alert.

Law enforcement agencies and medical personnel have been instructed to report for duty, the Punjab government spokesperson said in a statement.

The Punjab government has alerted the hospitals and communication lines for possible in case of an emergency, and instructed to mobilize all trained personnel regarding civil defense in the field.

The administration has also activated the siren and warning system to announce an emergency across the province.

“District administrations across Punjab to remain on 24/7 alert for civil defense,” the govt spokesperson added.

“In view of the serious security situation on the eastern border, the force has been mobilized,” it added.

The Home Department has made necessary advisories to ensure civic services and safety.
