Punjab Assembly passes bill to reduce traffic fines

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly has passed an important amendment bill to reduce traffic fines. The final approval of this law will be given by the Governor of Punjab, after which it will come into force.

According to the details, the Provincial Motor Vehicle (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance 2025 was passed by a majority vote in the house. The aim of this amendment is to reduce the financial burden on citizens and balance the fine system.

Under the new law, some motorcycle challans have been reduced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,000, while the maximum fine for a motorcycle has now been fixed at Rs 2,000.

Similarly, fines have also been significantly reduced for rickshaw drivers. For some violations, the challan for rickshaws has been reduced from Rs 3,000 to Rs 1,000, while for serious violations, a fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed.

Relief has also been given to car and jeep owners. The fine for some violations has been reduced from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,000. However, the fine for serious violations has been maintained at Rs 5,000.

There has been no change in the fines for overspeeding, and they will remain as before. In addition, the fines for 2000 cc and luxury vehicles have also been reduced. The maximum fine for these vehicles has been reduced from Rs 20,000 to Rs 10,000, while the minimum fine will be Rs 2,000.

The fines for Mazda, Coaster and other small passenger vehicles have also been reduced, which will now be up to Rs 7,000 instead of Rs 20,000. Similarly, the maximum fine for trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles has also been reduced from Rs 20,000 to Rs 10,000.
