LAHORE: In a ground breaking move, the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the ”Maryam Nawaz Dhee Rani Program” to help underprivileged families in Punjab by lessening the burden of marriage costs.
This program eases the parents’ financial burden who have trouble managing the expense of marrying their daughters through a joyful celebration.
This scheme allows parents to have a stress free wedding experience, while the government of Punjab manages the expense of the memorable event of their daughters life.
The eligibility for project registration according to applicant group includes unmarried girls between the ages of 18 to 40 years and those with bona fide residence proof within the Punjab.
Orphans, those entirely destitute, those with HIV-AIDS, persons with lifelong disabilities, or relatives of persons with disabilities will be given preference along with verification of a marriage proposal.
Three simple procedures can be followed in applying for this project: by going in person to the Social Welfare Office, applying online via the official website, and calling helpline number 1312 to avail help and facilitate with details.
Upon selection, the families will receive financial and material support worth Rs. 206,000 in the form of a dowry gift package to buy the most important items for the house.
The ceremony expenses will also be taken care of, and a cash gift of Rs. 100,000 will be deposited in the bride’s bank account via an ATM card issued by the Bank of Punjab.
This scheme serves as a great humane initiative by the government for poor families in Punjab allowing them to get into wedlock with dignity and joy.
