ISLAMABAD: Journalist Imran Riaz Khan and former PM Imran Khan’s aide Shahbaz Gill have been booked for their alleged involvement in a malicious social media campaign against Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crimes Wing Lahore has also named a citizen Muhammad Nadeem Javaid in the case, registered under the PECA, 2016.
The first information report (FIR) stated that the accused were involved in the sharing of highly derogatory AI-generated superimposed material against CM Maryam Nawaz and the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the statement issued by FIA, a person namely Muhammad Nadeem has been arrested from Lahore in the aforementioned case.
“The alleged Twitter account and mobile phone used to share the derogatory post have been recovered from the alleged person,” the FIA said.
The accused person will be produced before the concerned court tomorrow for physical remand.
In another action, FIA CCRC Multan has also arrested a citizen named M Ijaz, a resident of Muzaffargarh, for his alleged involvement in sharing derogatory AI-generated images of Maryam Nawaz on his Facebook account.
FIA has also recovered the alleged mobile phone used to share the derogatory post.
FIA CCRC Faislabad has also taken strict action over the matter and arrested the accused Amir Abbad, a resident of PirMahal, along with seizing his mobile phone and X, formerly known as Twitter, which was used to share the derogatory posts.
