Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz launches ‘Kisan Card’ programme in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the “Kisan Card” program in Hafizabad on Monday, aiming to provide financial support to small farmers by reducing the role of intermediaries.

Speaking at the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz announced that the initiative’s budget has been expanded to cover seven hundred and fifty thousand farmers.  Under the scheme, farmers can obtain an interest-free loan of up to one hundred and fifty thousand rupees per crop season to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides using their Kisan Cards.

From four and a half to five hundred billion, we have started a Kisan package, with this Kisan card, you are being given an interest-free loan of one and a half lakh rupees per crop.

She highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment to developing policies that prioritize farmer welfare and address the impact of rising wheat prices. “We faced criticism for not purchasing wheat earlier, but ensuring farmers’ profit margins remains a priority,” she added.

The cards were also distributed among farmers in a ceremony attended by Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Rana Sanaullah, Maryam Aurangzeb, and others.

How to register for Kisan Card Program

To register for the Punjab Kisan Card initiative, applicants can send their ID card number to 8070 from their registered mobile number.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister also announced upcoming projects, including the “Green Tractor Scheme,” expected to roll out with 1.5 million applications received. Under the program, the government will offer subsidies of up to Rs1 million on tractors costing around Rs4 million.

Maryam Nawaz also announced to allocate 35 to 40 billion rupees to establish rental machinery units across Punjab’s tehsils and a program for solarization of seven thousand tubewells.
