Punjab Govt decreases transport fares after fuel price drop

LAHORE: The Punjab government has provided some financial relief to commuters by announcing a reduction in transport fares following the recent drop in petrol and diesel prices, here on Wednesday.

As per the details, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari while giving details during a press briefing in Lahore said that the fares have decreased by Rs.1000. 20 to Rs 190, with the biggest reduction on the Lahore to Karachi route.

Bukhari disclosed that the fares of Lahore to Karachi route have been reduced by Rs. 190, while the fare from Lahore to Peshawar has been reduced by Rs. 50, and Lahore to Rawalpindi Rs 20. The move is aimed at making travel more affordable for the public amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Bukhari also pointed out that Punjab is currently the only province that has adjusted transport fares in line with lower fuel prices.

The minister said that updated fare lists have been posted at bus terminals across the province to reflect the new rates.

This marks the fifth straight cut in fares following the drop in petrol prices, with the government encouraging other provinces to implement similar measures to ease the burden on commuters.

On September 30, the government had reduced petrol prices by Rs 1.50 paise. 2.7 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs.247.03.

The prices of high-speed diesel have been reduced by 1 rupee 50 paise. 3.40 per litre, while light diesel and kerosene prices saw a decline of Rs. 1.30 and Rs.3.57 per liter respectively.
