Punjab imposes Section 144 in five more districts for three days

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday imposed Section 144 in five more districts of the province for three days, citing security threats.

The govt announced has immediately banned political rallies, gatherings, sit-ins, and protests, in Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu districts from October 12 (Saturday) to October 14 (Monday).

The Home Department Punjab, officially issued a notification outlining the enforcement of these restrictions.

The decision, made at the request of the local district administration, is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety in light of potential security risks.

Earlier, the provincial government imposed Section 144 in eight cities including Multan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Vehari, Pakpattan, Okara, and Wazirabad from October 10 to October 12.

The decision banned all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests, and similar activities.

The government has also imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi for eight days, starting from October 11 till October 17, in the wake of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled in Islamabad from October 15 to 16.

Several activities were prohibited within the city limits, including pillion riding, aerial firing, political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, and protests.
