BUREWALA: A disturbing incident unfolded in Burewala, Punjab, on Monday, when Constable Laeeq Ahmed attempted to take his own life after being denied leave.

Ahmed was rushed to a local hospital with a bullet wound to the chest and has since been transferred to another hospital in Sahiwal in critical condition.

According to Ahmed’s family, he was under immense stress due to his workload and had requested leave to rest, but was denied permission.

However, the district police spokesperson claims that Ahmed’s injury was an accident that occurred while cleaning his gun.

The incident highlights the pressing issue of excessive workload and long duty hours faced by Punjab policemen, which can take a severe toll on their mental health.

The department must prioritize the well-being of its officers to ensure they can perform their duties effectively and combat crime efficiently.

The police department’s response will be crucial in addressing the underlying issues that led to this incident. Ensuring the mental health and well-being of officers is essential for maintaining an effective and healthy police force.
