ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG), ISPR said in a press release.
The newly appointed ISI chief is currently serving as an adjutant general at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the statement added.
In October 2021, then-Major General Asim Malik had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. The new DG ISI had been awarded a sword of honor in his course.
The country’s new spymaster has previously commanded the Infantry Division in Balochistan and the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan.
Apart from that, he has also been posted as Chief Instructor at National Defense University (NDU) and served as an Instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta. Lt Gen Asim is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik will be replacing Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the country’s spymaster and will assume charge as the DG ISI on September 30.
Newly appointed DG ISI Asim Malik is a son of Lt Gen (retd) Ghulam Muhammad Malik, who previously served as commander of the X Corps, Rawalpindi in the 1990s.
The X Corps is a field corps of the Pakistan Army, which has a responsibility to protect the entire Line of Control (LOC).
