ISLAMABAD: PTI founder Imran Khan‘s son Qasim Khan has said he is ‘looking to America right now’ for support for his jailed father.
In an interview with US media outlet Real America’s Voice, he said that many people in the US have expressed concern over his father’s cases.
“It seems like this may be the only way out at this time,” he added.
He claimed that authorities in Pakistan are not responding to concerns raised by human rights organisations about his father’s plight and prison conditions.
When asked about his meeting with US President Donald Trump‘s adviser Richard Grenell, Qasim said, “Grenell was very nice to spend time with us, we talked at length and I am very optimistic after the meeting.”
However, Qasim declined to give details of his meeting with Trump’s adviser, saying only that he was very optimistic.
Describing his father’s prison conditions, Qasim said that the condition of his cell was appalling.
He added, “My father showers in muddy water. It doesn’t get clean, but it gets really dirty.”
At the moment, my father is in a really, really bad condition, Qasim said and alleged that 10 people have died in the prison due to his poor health.
Claiming that his father is in solitary confinement, Qasim lamented that the authorities are not allowing him to speak to his father.
“My father is facing over 200 cases, and every time a case against him is dismissed, four or five more cases are filed against him,” Qasim claimed.
Referring to the treatment meted out to his father, Qasim claimed that his father was left in his cell without any light for 10 days, calling it a “tactical act of violence.”
Qasim pointed out that despite being in prison, his father managed to secure a large number of votes in the last elections.
He said that despite the secret tactics used by the authorities to rig the elections, my father won a two-thirds majority.
He said, “I am not a politician, I do not want to be a politician, I want to get him out of prison.”
