ISLAMAABAD: The annual desalination of Khanpur Dam, the main water reservoir for Rawalpindi and Islamabad, is scheduled from February 10 to February 20. Water supply to both cities will remain suspended until the process is completed on February 23.
Officials said that cleaning is routine to prevent sediment accumulation and ensure efficient flow of water. The operation will extend from Khanpur Dam to Sangjani Filtration Plant.
Sangjani Filtration Plant will also be cleaned. Officials have advised residents, businesses and commercial sectors to store water in advance and limit usage during the disruption.
Those facing immediate shortages can contact the Water Supply Branch for assistance.
A private contractor has been assigned to complete the desalination using both large and small-scale machinery. Water supply is expected to return to normal on February 23 after the work is completed.
