ISLAMABAD: Local authorities blocked all major roads and intersections in twin cities — Rawalpindi and Islamabad — ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk on October 4, Friday.
Islamabad administration sealed all roads leading to the Red Zone and D-Chowk from all sides including Serena, Jinnah Avenue, Nadra Square, Margalla Road, and the Marriott Hotel.
A holiday has been announced in all private and public schools in the federal capital and the Metrobus service is suspended in Rawalpindi although operational in Islamabad from IJP to Pak Secretariat.
Internet and mobile network services have been temporarily suspended in both cities ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest call.
Entry and exit points of Islamabad, including Srinagar Highway at 26 no Chungi, Faizabad interchange on Expressway and Murre Road, Sanjgani Toll Plaza, Margalla Road from GT Road, 9th Avenue, and T-Chowk were closed with containers.
Furthermore, Zero Point, Khanna Pull, Jinnah Avenue from Blue Area, and Srinagar Highway from Shakarparian Police Check post are also blocked with containers.
Additionally, M1 and M2 motorways connecting Islamabad to Peshawar and Lahore, have been closed from different locations causing massive travel disruptions and stranding thousands of commuters.
The M1 motorway is completely closed at four locations — GT Road, Attock Khurd, Hassanabdal, and Chashma Point. The CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) has also been sealed at various points.
Multiple Roads closed in Garrison City including Murre Road from Faizabad, 6th Road, Chandani Chowk, Liaquat Bagh area, Marir Chowk, Double Road, C-Block, and DAV College Chowk.
Moreover, authorities have put containers on Haider Road, Khanna Pul, Sahi Chowk, Naz Cinema, Kohati Bazaar Mor, T-Chowk from Rawat, Khayaban Sir Syed Road, Carriage Factory, 26 Number Chungi and Chairing Cross.
Sawan Bridge, Dhagal towards Adiala Jail, GT Road from Chak Beli Mor, Mandra, and Missa Kaswal are closed for traffic, according to the Rawalpindi traffic police. The Daultala Mor on Mandra-Chakwal road is closed to traffic.
