Security forces gunned down 11 terrorists in Lakki Marwat IBO

RAWALPINDI: At least 11 terrorists were killed by security forces in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ISPR said on Tuesday.

As per the the army’s media wing, the security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in response to an improvised explosive device blast that killed seven soldiers, including Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas, on June 9.

The ISPR said that the Pakistan Army troops effectively targeted the hideouts of the militants, resulting in the death of 11 terrorists and the destruction of several hideouts.

“The area is being cleaned up to eliminate the terrorists in the area, and those responsible for this heinous act will be brought to justice,” ISPR added.

At least seven security personnel, including an army captain, were martyred when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their vehicle in Lakki Marwat on Sunday.

Local officials said that the vehicle was on its way to Kaichi Kamar area when it was attacked near Sultan Khel village bordering Punjab’s Mianwali district.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on a vehicle of security forces in Lakki Marwat district,” a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said that 26-year-old Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas, a resident of Kasur, along with 50-year-old Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir from Skardu, 34-year-old Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar from Ghanchi, 36-year-old Lance Naik Hussain Ali from Ghizer, 33-year-old Sepoy Asadullah from Multan, 27-year-old Sepoy Manzoor Hussain from Gilgit, and 31-year-old Sepoy Rashid Mehmood from district Rawalpindi embraced martyrdom.

Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
