RAWALPINDI: Authorities have increased security at key routes linking Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with Punjab by setting up additional police checkposts at four major entry and exit points.

The move has been taken in view of the current situation in AJK to ensure public safety and the uninterrupted supply of food and other essential goods.

According to sources, security arrangements have been strengthened at Dhan Gali, Azad Pattan, Kotli Sattian and other important connecting routes between AJK, Rawalpindi and Murree.

District administration, police and traffic police officials were directed to report to their assigned locations immediately. Security personnel have since established checkposts and started performing their duties.

Officials said vehicles carrying food items, medicines and other essential supplies to AJK are being allowed to move after necessary security checks to avoid any disruption in supply.

Meanwhile, the election process for three refugee seats of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has yet to gain momentum.

Sources said no candidate has filed nomination papers for the Valley-4, Valley-5 and Jammu-6 refugee constituencies during the first four days of the nomination process.

Neither political parties nor independent candidates have submitted papers or collected nomination forms so far, while the offices of the returning officers remained largely inactive during the period.
