KARACHI: Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, got temporary relief from the Sindh High Court, according to media reports.
The SHC halts the implementation of the decision by the ombudsman in the harassment case.
The court issued notices to the concerned parties seeking a response within one week.
Moonis Alvi was directed by the court to deposit the penalty amount of Rs 2.5 million. Barrister Abid Zuberi, counsel of Alvi, argues before the court that the case does not fall within the jurisdiction of the obdusman.
He argued that K-Electric operates in different regions, including Hub and Windar, which makes it an inter-provincial body that falls under the rules of federal laws.
Following the submission of responses from each party, the case will go forward as the court continues to consider the legal extent of the ombudsman’s jurisdiction in this particular case.
The Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh announced its verdict against K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Moonis Alvi, removing him from post and imposing 2.5 million rupees of Fine.
According to the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, the allegations against the CEO Alvi are proven.
Notably, Mahreen Zehra filed complaints against the CDEO in the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh
The ombudsman also added that the fine should be paid within one month, failing to which will lead to the seizure of his properties.
If the fine is not paid, the identity card and passport should also be blocked.
They harassed and mentally tortured the complainant, Mehreen Zahra, who was hired as chief marketing officer at K-electric in 2019.
Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, Justice (retd) Shah Nawaz Tariq, heard Mehreen Zahra’s petition.
