KARACHI: There is a sense of relief for government employees in Sindh ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. The provincial government has decided to release salaries and pensions earlier than usual, ensuring that both serving and retired staff can prepare for Eid without financial delay.

The Sindh government has announced early payment of salaries and pensions to all government employees and pensioners across the province. Both serving employees and retired pensioners will receive their full salaries and pensions on May 20 instead of the regular payment date.

The Sindh Finance Department has issued an official notification confirming the move and has also sent instructions to all concerned departments through official correspondence. According to the notification, in view of the expected Eid-ul-Adha on May 27 or 28, 2026 (subject to moon sighting), the provincial government has decided to release the full salaries, allowances and pensions for May 2026 in advance.

Good news for Sindh government employees regarding the upcoming May salaries ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

The payment, which is usually made on June 1, will now be released on May 20. The decision applies to all Muslim government employees and pensioners of the Sindh government, including work-charged and contingent-paid staff.

Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan is likely to fall on May 27 after the sighting of the Zil-Hijjah moon. The religious festival is celebrated on the 10th day of Zil-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Ruet had announced on April 18 that the Zil-Qa’d moon has been sighted after receiving reports from different parts of the country and the first day of Zil-Qa’d was observed on April 19, 2026.

Experts say that the birth of the Zil-Hijjah moon is expected on the intervening night of May 16 and 17. By the evening of May 17, the moon will be more than 18 hours old, making it highly likely to be visible in Pakistan on that day.
