Sindh Govt announces revised minimum wage

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday imposed a minimum monthly wage of Rs 1000. 37,000 for all workers of industrial and commercial establishments across the province.

The Sindh government has issued the revised minimum wages notification after the approval of the Sindh Chief Minister, a statement said that the revised wages will be applicable from July 1, 2024.

In the annual budget 2024-25, the Sindh government has announced to raise the minimum monthly wage of workers to Rs 1000. 37,000 and now the revised wages, applicable in industrial and commercial establishments operating throughout the province, have come into force.

According to the notification, female workers will also be paid at par with male workers and if the wages in an organization are above the previous minimum wage, it will not be reduced.

The notification requires compliance of the revised wages by all establishments and directs the concerned industries and commercial establishments operating in the province to ensure immediate compliance.

In a separate move to ensure workers access to their rights and benefits, the Sindh government has decided to launch a province-wide campaign to register workers, including not only factory workers but also domestic workers.

Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Haider Shah presided over the meeting of Labor and Human Resource Department and directed to start the registration campaign across the province and directed the Deputy Commissioners to cooperate with the Labor Department in this regard.

He urged to launch an awareness campaign to make the workers aware of their rights and the facilities provided by the government as well as to inform the workers about the registration process.

He said that the Sindh government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of the workers and assured that the government will take all possible steps to improve the quality of life of the workers.
