Social Media to be Suspended on Election Day?

ISLAMABAD – Only a day is left for the general elections 2024. Various rumors are going that social media sites will be closed or open on election day. According to the media reports, internet facility may be suspended in the sensitive areas.

Ahead of election, the country saw violence against political parties and candidates, while security forces personnel remain at the forefront in fresh terrorism wave.

To rule out any unwanted incidents on Election Day, the caretaker government is mulling at suspending internet service on Feb 8 in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other sensitive regions.

As citizens expressed concerns over rumours about internet and mobile phone services suspension, the country’s interim security czar Gohar Ijaz said there has been no decision made regarding this at this moment.

Internet Update on Election Day

In a press conference, the minister said if there is any request from any district or province then the decision will be made. He however mentioned that terrorists communicate through WhatsApp.

The incumbent ministers also ruled out any change in election dates despite the recent attacks in Balochistan and KP.

The government has made stern arrangements and over 6lac security personnel have been deployed for duty, as safety of the people remains of paramount importance for all.
