KARACHI: The Sindh home ministry has issued the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the collection of sacrificial animal hides and associated activities for Eid ul Adha 2025.

As per a notice published on May 29, 2025, the unauthorized collection of hides was prohibited; therefore, only approved welfare groups may gather them with prior permission from the deputy commissioner.

Unauthorized collection of hidden material will be deemed a punishable offense. To preserve public order during the festival, the notification prohibits announcing hide collection using loudspeakers or banners.

Those forcibly gathering hides will face severe punishment, according to the Sindh Interior Department; all seized hides will be given to authorized groups.

On-site inspections will be carried out by law enforcement agencies to guarantee compliance; infractions would cause cases filed under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Furthermore, to enhance security, the department has suspended all arms permits in Karachi throughout the Eid festivities. Only commissioners or deputy commissioners will approve permissions for group sacrificial events.

It’s important to note that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee said the Zil Hajj moon was not seen in Pakistan and that Eid ul Adha would be celebrated on June 7, Saturday.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Islamabad to view the Zil Hajj 1446 Hejri moon. Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad stated during a press conference following the meeting that no reliable moon sighting reports came from major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Islamabad.

Celebration of Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, honours Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in following God’s will. With cattle markets arranged around Pakistan for the procurement of sacrificial animals, preparations for the festival are ongoing.

Traditionally celebrated by killing animals, whose meat is distributed to underprivileged relatives. In observance of the custom of Prophet Ibrahim, the faithful sacrifice their animals over three days of Eid al-Adha.
