ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has warned that the Earth is facing a powerful solar storm.

A statement released by SUPARCO revealed that there is more emission of solar radiation towards the Earth. This solar storm, which started on the night of May 10, will continue to affect the planet for the next 48 to 72 hours.

SUPARCO announced that the solar storm has resulted in lights that have been seen as far away as Atlanta and South Africa. SUPARCO is closely monitoring this solar storm using its instruments.

The statement further informed us that the effects of this storm are being felt on satellite and communication systems. Pakistan has limited capabilities to deal with the effects of this solar storm.

This intense storm from the sun has occurred after 22 years due to excessive solar emissions containing rays and particles.

It should be noted that Japan’s satellite was destroyed in October 2003 by magnetic waves generated by the most powerful solar storm on record, which hit the Earth’s atmosphere.
