PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Ali Amin Gandapur, has announced Rs 1 million as compensation for the families of those deceased in the Swat River flash floods tragedy.
The spokesperson of the provincial government, Barister Saif, said that the families of the deceased will receive Rs 1 million as financial compensation.
17 people were swept away by the flash flood in the River Swat on Friday morning.
The government also suspended several officers over the negligence that caused such a tragedy in the recent history of the province.
The CM has formed a committee to investigate the incident. The committee will be chaired by the head of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team.
The committee will determine the causes of the tragedy and identify those responsible.
The Assistant Commissioner of Khwazakhela was suspended for failing to issue timely warnings, while the ADC Relief was suspended for not making necessary arrangements in advance.
Additionally, it has been decided to suspend the district in charge of Rescue 1122 immediately.
Earlier, 18 tourists, including 10 people from a single family, were swept away in Swat river due to the flooding caused by the Monsoon rains.
According to the rescue officials, they have retrieved four bodies and three people have been rescued alive, while 11 people are still missing as search operations are underway under difficult circumstances.
