LAHORE: At least 26 members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) of Punjab have been suspended by the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly for the next 15 sittings, according to media reports.
The lawmakers in Friday’s session chanted slogans, raised placards, and disrupted proceedings during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s presence in the House.
The members suspended by the speaker included Malik Fahad Masood, Muhammad Tanvir Aslam, Syed Riffat Mehmood, Yasir Mehmood Qureshi, Kalimullah Khan, Muhammad Ansar Iqbal, Ali Asif, Zulfiqar Ali, Ahmed Mujtaba Chaudhry, Shahid Javed, Muhammad Ismail, Khayal Ahmed, Shehbaz Ahmed, Tayyab Rashid, Imtiaz Mehmood, Ali Imtiaz, Rashid Tufail, Murtaza Iqbal, Khalid Zubair, Ijaz Shafi, Saima Kanwal, Muhammad Naeem, Sajjad Ahmed, Rana Aurangzeb, Shoaib Mir and Usama Asghar Ali Gujjar.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan said that he will not allow any violation of assembly rules had has ordered disciplinary action.
“This House cannot be allowed to descend into chaos,” said the speaker, adding that order must be maintained.
The opposition declared a protest and called the action undemocratic. Meanwhile, Lawmakers from the PML-N backed the ruling, saying it was required to maintain decorum.
