Thief robs IG Islamabad residence’s telephone cable in daring heist attempt

ISLAMABAD: Amid the deteriorating law and order situation in the federal capital, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Nasir Ali Rizvi became the new victim.

The thief managed to escape after cutting the telephone cables worth millions of rupees of IG Islamabad’s official residence on Saturday.

According to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) spokesman, between 3 AM and 4 AM last night, thieves struck outside the government houses where the IG resides, severing telephone cables and disrupting communication services. The theft resulted in the shutdown of all telephone numbers in the area.

The incident comes amidst a rising tide of street crimes in Islamabad, with over 10,500 cases registered in 2022, involving a staggering Rs 4 billion in losses from armed robberies, thefts, and snatchings.
