LAHORE: The ongoing smog and fog in Punjab, KP and other parts of Pakistan has affected train operations, resulting in a lot of inconvenience to passengers.

Railway officials have indicated that dense fog and smog are affecting train schedules in several cities.

Besides, the passengers have been informed that the Khyber Mail, which was expected to arrive at Karachi Cantt Station by 10 pm, arrived at 5 am the next morning. Many passengers expressed their dissatisfaction over the lack of communication regarding train schedule updates.

Passengers have expressed their displeasure as railway officials are said to be refusing to refund tickets, suggesting that customers simply throw them away.

Earlier today, the Punjab Transport Department issued new guidelines in response to the worst smog situation in most areas of the province.

In the light of the court orders, the Mass Transit and Transport Department has come up with a new strategy to tackle the growing threat of smog.

According to the guidelines issued by the department, light transport vehicles emitting smoke will be fined Rs 2,000 for the first offense and Rs 4,000 for subsequent offences.

Additionally, there will be no leniency for buses and trucks emitting excessive smoke. Until heavy transport vehicles, including buses and trucks, are fully compliant, they must remain parked. A report detailing the actions taken against these vehicles should be submitted on both a daily and weekly basis.

Further, as directed to the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and other concerned authorities, public awareness campaigns should be launched to inform the public about the causes of smog and its harmful effects.
