Transport fares reduced in Islamabad after petrol price reduction

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has approved a significant reduction in public transport fares in line with the reduction in petroleum prices in Pakistan.

As per the details, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad said that the new rates will come into effect from today, June 3, adding that the fares for routes longer than 30 km have been reduced by Rs 10.

A spokesman for the Islamabad administration said it was aimed at providing relief to daily commuters and reflected the transport union’s agreement to reduce fares.

All public transport vehicles are now required to prominently display their lease deeds on the front screen to avoid any action.

The move will help passengers verify that the vehicles are plying under the new fare structure.

Meanwhile, the transport union has assured the authorities of the implementation of new fares on all public transport services in the federal capital.

The district administration has warned that strict action will be taken against motorists who do not comply with the new fares.
