LAHORE: In a tragic event, one individual was killed in a road accident by an underage driver in the Shahdara area of Lahore.
Expressing serious concerns, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has taken notice and summoned an inquiry report regarding the accident.
The IGP has ordered to launch crackdown against the underage drivers causing danger to the safety of the masses on the roads.
Usman Anwar directed Safe City officials to utilize surveillance cameras to detect and monitor underage drivers. He also highlighted that parents of teenage drivers who cause accidents or fatalities should face legal consequences.
The directives aim to reduce the rising incidence of traffic accidents caused by underage drivers while also ensuring rigorous accountability to prevent future loss of life.
In another development, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) is now using drones to monitor traffic and enforce laws on the city’s busiest roads. The new system will first be used on the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway, two major routes that carry a lot of traffic.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt (retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider said that these drones will monitor traffic in real time and immediately catch anyone violating traffic rules. Those caught using the drones will be fined immediately. This is a major step towards using modern technology for traffic enforcement.
CTO Haider explained that this effort aims to improve discipline on Islamabad’s roads, reduce traffic violations, reduce congestion, and make the roads safer for all.
