Weather alert: NDMA warns of heavy rain & hailstorm in coming days

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said Heavy rains, windstorms, thunderstorms, and scattered hailstorms are anticipated in several regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and many districts in Punjab.

Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, and sections of central Punjab, such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, and Sargodha, would be among the most hit.

Malakand Division, Hazara Division, Bannu, Charsadda, Karak, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mardan, Nowshera, Orakzai, Peshawar, Swabi, Waziristan, and neighboring districts are to be affected by Rainfall and scattered hailstorms during the evenings of April 18th and 19th, 2025. According to NDMA.

It issued a warning that rain or snowfall might cause landslides or avalanches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s hilly districts.”Tourists are advised to regularly monitor weather forecasts for updates on rain/thunderstorms.”

Key roadways in these locations may become impassable owing to landslides or snow accumulation, according to the report, which also warns that severe rain may cause flash floods.

The NDMA has encouraged individuals to verify road conditions before traveling, especially in hilly areas such as Hazara and Malakand Divisions.

It has advised people to avoid needless journeys during instances of severe weather or heavy rain. “Stay vigilant in landslide and avalanche-prone regions and adhere to safety advisories from local authorities.”

The NDMA recommends that the public take appropriate steps to reduce the dangers connected with extreme weather conditions. Authorities are on high alert to respond to crises.

Strong gusts, heavy rain, and hailstorms might cause power outages, transportation delays, and structural damage. The NDMA specifically warned of serious hazards to standing crops in agricultural regions, particularly Punjab.
