LONDON: England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson has confirmed he will retire from international cricket after England’s first Test against the West Indies this summer.

The 41-year-old, Anderson, known as Jimmy, is England’s highest Test wicket-taker of all-time, having taken exactly 700, one of only three players to reach the mark, and the only seam bowler to do so.

The Lancashire bowler, who has played an English record 187 Test matches, after making his debut in 2003, has taken his wickets at an average of under 27 each.

One of the greatest English bowlers of all time said the first Test against West Indies at Lord’s on July 10 will be his last.

In a statement, posted on Instagram, he said, “It’s been an incredible 20 years representing my country, playing the game I’ve loved since I was a kid. I’m going to miss walking out for England so much.”

“But I know the time is right to step aside and let others realize their dreams just like I got to because there is no greater feeling.”

“I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of Daniella, Lola, Ruby, and my parents. A huge thank you to them. Also, thank you to the players and coaches who have made this the best job in the world.”

Moreover, he stated, “I’m excited for the new challenges that lie ahead, as well as filling my days with even more golf.”

Sensational pacer Jimmy expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported him over the years. “It’s always meant a lot, even if my face often doesn’t show it.”
