LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refutes media reports claiming that Aqib Javed — currently a part of PCB’s selection committee — will take charge as Pakistan’s head coach across all formats replacing Jason Gillespie.

In a statement on social media site X, the board categorically denied the reports and confirmed that Gillespie will head-coach Pakistan side until the South Africa tour.

“As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa,” the PCB wrote.

Earlier, an international media website asserted that Gillespie was expected to be relieved of all duties as Pakistan head coach and will be replaced by Aqib Javed across all formats.

The reports further asserted that Aqib Javed will take over the role ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe starting November 24 after the conclusion of Pakistan’s ongoing Australia tour.

The development after Gary Kirsten untimely resigned from the role, just days before the team’s departure to Australia.

Following Kirsten’s resignation, the PCB appointed red-ball coach Jason Gillespie as the interim white-ball coach for the tour of Australia. The board announced in a statement, confirming Gillespie’s role in the ODI and T20 series against Australia.

Gillespie had rested the rumors by expressing his disinterest in assuming the role on a full-time basis.

“I’ve only taken over white-ball format coaching on an interim basis. I am not keen on coaching permanently in the white ball format at the moment,” Gillespie told Australian media in Melbourne.
