ICC okays new rules in Test Cricket: All you need to know is here!

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced new rules in cricket with several changes to the playing conditions of cricket under the new rules.

Stopwatch

After the white ball, the ICC has now decided to introduce a stopwatch in Test cricket as well. Slow over rate has been a long-standing problem in Test cricket, but now the fielding side will have to start the second over within one minute at the end of the over in Test cricket. If the over is not started within one minute, the umpire will give 2 warnings. For the third time, the umpire will impose a penalty of 5 runs on the fielding side.

The role of the stopwatch has been implemented in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

Use of saliva on the ball

The ball will not be changed if saliva is deliberately used on the ball. If the structure of the ball changes after the use of saliva, the umpire can give 5 runs to the batting side.

5 penalty runs for deliberately taking short runs

In the third change, the bowling side will decide to strike with 5 penalty runs on the batting side for deliberately taking short runs. The umpire will consult the bowling side on which batter they would like to take strike after the short run.

Fairness of Catch Review

The ICC has also made changes to the fairness of the catch review. Through this change, if the umpire has doubts about taking a catch, the third umpire will also check the catch along with the no-ball in the review.

Earlier, the third umpire used to check the no-ball first, and in the case of a no-ball, the catch review was skipped.

According to the new rules, in the case of a fair catch on a no-ball, the batting side will get one run for the no-ball, and in the case of no-catch, the batting side will get the same number of runs as it takes.
