JAMAICA: In a historical Test Match between Australia and the West Indies, Kangaroo fast bowler Mitchell Starc completed his 400th wicket in his 100th Test match.
In the third and final day-night Test match against the West Indies, Starc took 6 wickets for just 9 runs and played a central role in Australia’s 176-run victory with his best bowling of his Test career.
He also took the 400th wicket of his career in this match, that too in an over in which he wreaked havoc by taking three wickets in a row.
Mitchell Starc also took the fastest 5 wickets in the history of Test cricket, taking 5 wickets in just 15 balls of his spell and breaking the 78-year-old record of completing 5 wickets in the fewest balls in Test cricket.
Earlier in 1947, Australia’s Ernie Toshack took 5 wickets in 19 balls against India.
Mitchell Starc said in a post-match interview that the whole week felt a bit strange. I just wanted to win the match and sing with the team. But it was a special occasion, which I will always remember.
Starc said that we planned that if we did not get wickets during the day, we would attack at night, but there was no need; all the bowlers did brilliantly during the day.
Mitchell Starc has taken 20 wickets in his last four Test matches at an average of 16.45, including the World Test Championship final. His recent form has been commendable, and he says his rhythm has been going well for a long time.
Captain Pat Cummins praised Starc, saying that he has the ability to turn the tide of a match in a few overs, and he can do it in any format, at any time.
Starc had raised questions about day-night Tests in the past, but now that he has taken 81 wickets in this format at an average of 17.08,
