ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top weightlifter, Nooh Dastgir Butt, achieved the title of Commonwealth Champion in the 120kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Powerlifting Classic and Equipped Championship in South Africa’s Sun City.
In his debut at the powerlifting event, Commonwealth Games champion Noah Butt won three gold medals and one bronze.
The Pride of Performance Award winner lifted an impressive 370kg in the squat to earn a gold medal, etching his name in history as Pakistan’s first powerlifting gold medalist.
Butt also secured gold in the bench press with a lift of 210kg and a bronze medal in the deadlift category, lifting 280kg. He lifted a total of 860kg in the open category, claiming the championship title.
This maiden appearance in powerlifting marks a significant milestone for Butt, who previously earned multiple medals in weightlifting.
Taking on social media, the powerlifting champion, wrote “Won gold medal at Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships,” adding that, “Stop me if you can, this Butt is not going to stop.”
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Noah Butt set a new games record in the snatch, clean-and-jerk, and total categories. He bagged the country’s first gold medal in the men’s +109 kg weightlifting event, with a record-breaking lift of 173 kg in the snatch category, and 232 kg in clean and jerk, for a combined lift of 405 kg.
