Veteran sports journalist Qamar Ahmed passes away at 88

KARACHI: Pakistan’s renowned and senior sports journalist Qamar Ahmed passed away in Karachi at the age of 88.

According to his family, Qamar Ahmed was suffering from a heart ailment and had been ill for a long time.

The news of his death has been expressed in the journalism, cricket and sports circles with deep sorrow and grief.

Qamar Ahmed was one of the earliest and most prominent cricket journalists of Pakistan. In his long journalistic career, he covered more than 400 Test matches and more than 600 One Day International matches while also reporting on several ICC events.

Born on October 23, 1937, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Qamar Ahmed made his mark on the international level in the field of journalism.

He also lived in England for a long time and gained fame as an analyst with a keen eye on world cricket.

Along with journalism, Qamar Ahmed also played first-class cricket. He participated in 17 first-class matches and also won the honor of leading the Hyderabad team in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Qamar Ahmed was considered one of the world’s leading cricket writers and analysts, whose writings and analyses were always of importance to cricket fans and experts.

The funeral prayers of the deceased will be offered today after Maghrib prayers at Baitul Islam Mosque in DHA Phase 4, Karachi.

With his death, Pakistan’s sports journalism has lost a renowned journalist who has rendered distinguished services in the field of cricket reporting and analysis for decades.
