NDMA issues weather advisory, new rain spell to enter

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory as a new rain spell is set to enter Pakistan.

NDMA has predicted thunderstorms and strong winds throughout the northern and central regions during the upcoming days.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) forecasted that Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will experience rainfall from April 12 until April 17 of 2026.

The system is expected to produce thunderstorms, dust storms, and strong winds, while some areas will experience hailstorms. Islamabad and several Punjab cities, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal and Gujrat and Sialkot, Lahore, Mianwali, Mandi Bahauddin, will receive rainfall.

Weather in Other Provinces

The weather in Sindh and Balochistan will remain hot and dry during the day, while temperatures will start to rise. The weather in Karachi will remain warm until the first part of next week because humidity and sea breeze will stop the city from reaching full heatwave conditions.

The forecast predicts that mountainous areas will receive both rain and snowfall. Higher elevation areas in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir will receive snowfall, while rainfall will occur in the lower valleys.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region will experience thunderstorms in Chitral, Dir and Swat, Shangla, and Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, while Swabi, Charsadda and Mardan and Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan will experience strong winds and rain.

The NDMA issued a warning about lightning, hail, and strong wind gusts because they will damage weak structures and uproot trees and cause power outages. The combination of wet road conditions and continuous rainfall in hilly terrain will increase the likelihood of landslides.
