LAHORE: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a new update regarding the fluctuating Punjab weather, with monsoon rains still ongoing in multiple districts.

As per PDMA’s spokesperson, Sheikhupura has experienced the maximum rainfall with 48 millimeters, and Lahore with 40 millimeters.

Other regions received light rain, including 6 mm in Gujranwala, 5 mm in Murree, 4 mm in Faisalabad, 2 mm in Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin received 1 mm of rain.

Rainfall was also seen in Attock, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, Kasur, and Bahawalpur, indicating a widespread change in Punjab weather.

Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that monsoon rain will most probably continue till tomorrow, and issued a warning that heavy rain is likely to occur in most regions of Punjab in the next 24 hours. He advised people to be on their guard because the weather in Punjab could become more intense.

Given the prevailing Punjab weather conditions, DG PDMA has recommended staying indoors at the time of lightning and thunderstorms.

He also cautioned against residing in shabby or dilapidated buildings, particularly in rural areas, as rain showers can lead to damage to the buildings.

PDMA is in touch with district administrations and continues to closely monitor the Punjab weather conditions so that safety and appropriate responses can be provided where necessary.

Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), rescue organizations, and administrative bodies to be on high alert during recent heavy rains and any unfolding emergency scenario.

As a precaution against anticipated flooding in the Indus River and other river basin areas, the prime minister has asked the NDMA, rescue agencies, and administrative bodies to quickly enforce safety measures and precautionary actions.

The prime minister instructed the NDMA to enhance coordination with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to efficiently handle the flood situation.
