PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Monday officially inaugurated the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar” scheme, which provides interest-free loans to poor people to build their own homes.
An interest-free loan cheque distribution ceremony was organized at the Chief Minister’s House, and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was the chief guest.
The provincial cabinet members, such as Meena Khan Afridi, Muzzammil Aslam, Dr. Amjad, and Rangaiz Ahmad, and Housing Department officials were also present on the occasion. On the occasion, the Chief Minister presented cheques among successful candidates.
Rs4 billion has been allocated for the disbursement of interest-free loans under the Ehsaas Apna Ghar scheme. To maintain transparency, applicants were chosen under a computerized ballot system.
People between 18 to 65 years, who earn less than Rs150,000 monthly, qualify for loans under this program. Borrowers can be given interest-free loans up to Rs1.5 million, which have to be paid back on an installment basis.
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government decided to protest against the deletion of the province’s two major hydroelectric power projects from the energy plan.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Energy and Power, Tariq Sadoza, in a letter to the Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari, stated that the provincial government will protest at a higher forum against the removal of these projects of the province.
He has taken serious concern over the expulsion of two major projects from the IGCAP. “The federal government’s move has been a victimization of the province,” the letter stated.
“Both schemes, 88 megawatts in Gabral Kalam and 157 megawatts in Madyan, have been launched under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower and Renewable Energy Programme,” the letter stated.
“Both schemes are expected to be completed in the year 2027 with World Bank’s financial support,” as per the letter. Both schemes were included in the plan with the approval of the NEPRA, Council of Common Interest (CCI), and the ECNEC.
“Removal of these projects by the system operator has been unlawful under the constitution,” the letter read.
