ISLAMABAD: An Air Canada passenger plane narrowly escaped destruction after its landing gear caught fire during touchdown at Halifax Airport.

According to foreign media reports, the accident occurred due to a technical malfunction in the plane’s landing gear. Despite the fire, the pilot landed the plane, averting a major accident.

The plane was flying from St. John’s to Halifax when the incident occurred. Videos and photos of the burning plane have since gone viral on social media, showing the intensity of the fire and the immediate response of emergency personnel.

This is the third aviation incident this week. Earlier today, a catastrophic plane crash during landing in South Korea killed 179 people. On December 25, an Azerbaijani passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan, killing 38 people and injuring 29.

Russia has since claimed responsibility for accidentally shooting down the Azerbaijani plane, attributing the incident to an active air defense system in Grozny amid Ukrainian drone strikes. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed regret for the tragic mistake and personally apologized to the Azerbaijani president.

Despite the frequency of such incidents, aviation authorities emphasize the rarity of accidents and the safety measures taken to prevent them. All incidents are under investigation.
