Beijing: A 23-year-old man in northern China, known as Xiaoma, discovered that he had had a cube stuck in his nose for more than 20 years, causing him to sneeze and have a runny nose.
Xiaoma, who had been suffering from chronic nasal problems for a month, sought treatment at Xian Gaoxin Hospital after traditional Chinese medicine failed to improve his condition. Doctors initially diagnosed him with allergic rhinitis but later identified a foreign object in his nasal passages.
Yang Rong, an otolaryngologist at the hospital, explained, “During nasal endoscopy, we discovered a foreign object – a white lump filled with secretions. Upon removal, it turned out to be a two-centimeter cube, which had become partially eroded due to its long-term residence in the nasal cavity. It was located at the bottom of the nose, causing damage to the nasal mucosa.”
The pinworm, which is believed to have entered Xiaoma’s nose when he was about three or four years old, was successfully removed through surgery.
The unusual discovery stunned Xiaoma and shocked the Chinese online community.
