DUBAI: The local court in Dubai has sentenced four Pakistani men to two years in jail each and fined Dh1 million for kidnapping and robbing two Indians.

The accused impersonating police officers kidnapped and robbed two Indian men on March 29 within the jurisdiction of Al Rafaa Police Station in Dubai, Khaleej Times reported.

As per the court records, a Pakistani driver for the victims collaborated with three other Pakistanis and a fugitive to kidnap and rob the victims after learning they carried a significant amount of cash.

While driving the victims to Dubai’s Gold Souk, the driver provided his aides with the victims’ location. Two of the accused posed as police officers stopped the victims and forced them into separate vehicles.

The gang stole Dh1 million, two mobile phones, and two wallets from the victims before releasing them.

Upon receiving the complaint, police investigated the matter and arrested the five men.

One of the accused was identified as the mastermind behind the operation, while two others played key roles in impersonating police officers and executing the robbery.

However, the court found the fifth accused not guilty based on a lack of evidence and testimonies of the other accused that corroborated his claim of non-involvement.
