GUJRAT: A tragic incident took place in the Indian state of Gujarat when an Indian Coast Guard helicopter crashed during a routine flight, killing three personnel on board.

According to Indian media reports, the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed near Port Bunder Airport in Gujarat during a routine patrol. The accident resulted in the immediate death of all three crew members, who were seriously injured and later succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them.

Indian police confirmed that the helicopter was in the middle of a routine flight when it suddenly crashed. Rescue teams immediately reached the scene and managed to pull the three injured from the wreckage. They were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but unfortunately the injuries sustained in the accident proved fatal and the three personnel succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

While the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined, investigations are underway. Initial reports suggest the helicopter has encountered technical difficulties, but further details are awaited. The advanced light helicopter is known for its reliability and is often used by the Indian Coast Guard for various missions, including surveillance and search and rescue operations.

The tragic incident comes just two months after a similar accident, when another Coast Guard helicopter crashed into the sea, also killing personnel. The accidents have raised concerns about the safety of air operations within the Coast Guard and sparked discussions about improving maintenance protocols and ensuring the safety of personnel.

Officials have expressed their condolences, with India’s home minister and senior Coast Guard officials paying tribute to the deceased personnel. The government has promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident and ensure that such incidents do not recur.

The loss of life has had a profound impact on the Indian Coast Guard community, with officials noting that these personnel were dedicated to protecting the country’s maritime borders and performing critical duties in difficult conditions.
