ISLAMABAD: Two migrant boats sank near Italy, with more than 100 people, including Pakistanis, on both boats.
According to the news agency, one boat was carrying 85 people from Pakistan, Eritrea and Somalia. Two people died in the accident, while 11 were rescued, and the search for the others is ongoing.
The other boat was carrying 35 people. Authorities have confirmed the death of one person, while 24 are still missing.
It should be noted that two months ago, several people died in two boat accidents near the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, while 60 people were rescued.
According to UN data, more than 32,000 migrants have lost their lives while trying to cross the Mediterranean since 2014. More than 900 people have died on the central Mediterranean route in 2025 alone.
