RIYADH: Saudi authorities have set rules for taking pictures inside the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, in Makkah.
As per the details, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has encouraged worshipers to take photos quickly and avoid disturbing others.
Many pilgrims want to capture their experience at the holy site, home of the Holy Kaaba, on their mobile devices as lasting memories.
Outlining the guidelines, the ministry advised worshipers to refrain from taking pictures of people engaged in prayer or other pilgrims without their consent.
They are also requested not to take too long while taking pictures so that there is no hindrance in the movement of worshippers. Rather than wasting precious time on photography or selfies, it is better to spend more time worshiping collectively.
The current Umrah season, which is available year-round, begins in late June after the annual Hajj, which attracts about 1.8 million Muslims from around the world.
Last year, about 13.5 million people performed Umrah, and the kingdom aims to welcome 15 million pilgrims next year.
