Speeding vehicle kills 35 & injures 43 in China, driver arrested

BEIJING: At least 35 people were killed and 43 injured when a speeding vehicle ran over dozens of people in China.

According to a foreign news agency, the incident took place in Zhuhai, South China‘s Guangdong Province. The accident happened on Monday.

Chinese police have arrested a 62-year-old driver who stabbed himself after the accident.

The injured driver has been taken to hospital for treatment, police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 62-year-old driver was unhappy after a divorce.

According to China’s official media, President Xi Jinping has ordered all necessary measures to treat the injured and demanded the harshest punishment for the accused.
