BANGKOK: Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, the eldest daughter of Thailand‘s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died at the age of 47 after a prolonged illness, according to an announcement by the Thai Royal Palace Bureau.
The royal palace confirmed that the princess passed away on Thursday night at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, where she had been receiving treatment since 2022.
According to reports, Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s health had continued to deteriorate due to complications arising from a severe infection and related medical conditions.
Despite extensive medical treatment and continuous care by specialist doctors, efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha, widely known as Princess Pa, was one of the most prominent members of Thailand’s royal family and had long been regarded as an influential public figure.
Born on December 7, 1978, she was the eldest child of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. Throughout her career, she represented Thailand in various diplomatic, legal, and social initiatives and was known for her active involvement in humanitarian causes.
The princess earned a law degree and later pursued higher studies abroad. She served in several important legal and diplomatic roles, including representing Thailand at international forums and promoting justice-sector reforms.
She was particularly recognized for her work on prison reform, rehabilitation programs for inmates, women’s rights and social welfare projects.
Her efforts to improve conditions within Thailand’s correctional system earned her both domestic and international recognition.
Following the announcement of her death, messages of condolence poured in from across Thailand. Members of the public, government officials, and prominent figures expressed grief over the loss of a senior royal family member.
An atmosphere of mourning has descended across the country, with tributes highlighting the princess’s dedication to public service and social development.
