WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, declaring that the Tuesday deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is final, amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Speaking to the media, Trump said that if Iran fails to comply, it could face severe consequences, including the destruction of critical infrastructure such as bridges and power plants. He also warned that the United States could move to seize oil resources if necessary.
The US president claimed that recent military operations in Iran amounted to a “regime change,” adding that Iran now has limited missile and drone capabilities. He emphasized that US proposals for a deal are “very important” and reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump said the conflict could end immediately if Iran accepts US demands, adding that Iranian negotiators have recently become “more reasonable.” However, he warned that rejecting the agreement would leave Iran facing serious repercussions.
He also criticized sections of the US media, dismissing a CNN poll that portrayed him negatively, stating that he is “not a loser.”
The remarks come as the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continues to escalate. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are underway, with countries including Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey pushing for a ceasefire, including a recent meeting of foreign ministers in Islamabad.
