KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a new policy aimed at increasing transparency and preventing fraud in the vehicle registration and transfer process.
Excise Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed that biometric verification will now be mandatory for all vehicle registrations and transfers in the province.
1. Phase 1 (July 1st): Biometric verification will be required for the registration of new vehicles.
2. Phase 2 (November 1st): Biometric verification will be necessary for individuals purchasing vehicles.
3. Phase 3: Both buyers and sellers will be required to undergo biometric verification for vehicle transfers.
Minister Memon emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards enhancing transparency within the Excise Department, stating that “this is just the beginning.” The biometric verification process is expected to prevent illegal transfers and fraud, ensuring a more secure and efficient system.
To facilitate the biometric verification process, citizens can visit NADRA e-facilitation centers or their respective district excise offices. This move is part of Minister Memon’s efforts to modernize the excise and taxation department, which also includes plans to launch a second phase of issuing premium number plates.
The second phase will feature 50 numbers to be auctioned off as part of a fundraising event for flood victims.
By introducing biometric verification, the Sindh government aims to create a more robust and transparent system for vehicle registration and transfer, ultimately benefiting citizens and preventing fraudulent activities.
