LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the launch of a special e-bike project for government employees, which will enable employees to get electric bikes on easy installments.
According to details, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz regarding the transport sector, in which in-principle approval was given to several important projects to provide modern and eco-friendly travel facilities to the public.
The meeting decided to provide new electric buses in 10 districts of Punjab, including Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, and Sheikhupura.
It was informed in the briefing that 100 electric buses will reach Punjab this month, while their total number will reach 714 by June.
The Chief Minister also sought a comprehensive plan to operate 1,500 electric buses at the tehsil level, and special bus depots will be established in each division for charging and maintenance of electric buses.
The meeting was informed that more than 1.25 million passengers have benefited on 21 routes under the free transport program so far.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the mass transit system project in Gujranwala and Faisalabad and directed to complete the construction and renovation of metro bus stations soon and also approved the new design.
For the first time in the history of Punjab, an eco-friendly taxi service is being launched, and vehicles will arrive under the first e-taxi scheme in May and June.
The Chief Minister has also approved the launch of a special e-bike project for government employees, through which employees will be able to get electric bikes on easy installments.
Maryam Nawaz said that the provision of modern transport will not only save the time of citizens but will also have a positive impact on the environment.
