KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced to launch a crackdown on unregistered vehicles across the province from Monday, February 17.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that unregistered vehicles will be seized from Monday. He also directed showroom owners not to remove any vehicle from the showroom without registration.
Furthermore, the government has decided to take action against physically unfit vehicles in Sindh. He said that mandatory motor vehicle inspection has been introduced for heavy vehicles, dumpers, trucks, buses and trailers.
The Sindh government has also decided to set up four motor vehicle inspection centers in Karachi.
Earlier, the provincial government relaxed the hours of ban on entry of heavy vehicles into the metropolis, apparently bowing to pressure from the powerful transport association.
The government, while relaxing the ban by one hour, has claimed that this decision has been taken for the convenience of both the public and transporters.
This development comes after Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar vowed to strictly implement the ban and not allow any heavy vehicle to ply on the roads before 11 pm.
However, a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah decided to allow heavy traffic movement from 11 pm to 6 am.
