Banks to remain closed in Pakistan for 2-days next week

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Wednesday announced that banks will remain closed on 16 and 17 July 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) on the occasion of Ashura 2024.

According to the notice issued by the central bank, “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on July 16TH and 17TH, 2024 (Tuesday & Wednesday) being public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 A.H).”

Earlier, the federal government announced a two-day public holiday on July 16 and 17 to observe the 9th and 10th Muharram, respectively.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated, “The Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 16 and 17 July 2024 (Tuesday & Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH).

Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on Wednesday, July 17.
