ISLAMABAD: Cement prices in Pakistan have surged once again, putting additional pressure on the construction sector. The recent hike has created challenges for both consumers and builders across the country.

Significant Increase in Price Per Bag

According to the report, the increase in cement prices is not the result of supply and demand, but of taxes and policy flaws. The report wrote that a 50-kilogram bag has increased from Rs 822 to Rs 1091, with taxes and duties accounting for 38 percent of the price.

Higher Production Costs Behind the Increase

Experts believe that the main reasons behind the price hike include rising electricity, gas, and fuel costs. Additionally, increased transportation expenses have also contributed to the overall surge in cement prices.

Risk of Slowdown in Construction Activities

Analysts warn that if this upward trend continues, construction activities in the country may slow down further, potentially affecting economic growth.

Call for Government Intervention

Consumers and stakeholders in the construction industry have urged the government to take immediate steps to control cement prices and provide relief amid rising inflation.
